Silent and waiting, the shimmered sky is bright,
anticipating the wonder of the night.
A new-born baby cries, and from the silent skies
a song begins to rise
that echoes from the time that cradles Bethlehem
Stars blaze in glory, and watchers in the night
receive the story that sets their hearts alight.
As galaxies take wing and star and nova sing,
the universe declares
that now the longed-for one is born in Bethlehem
Sing joy and gladness, rejoicing at the birth
that scatters gladness and offers peace to earth.
So bring your fire for truth, and vows of love and faith
for justice and for peace.
These are the gifts we owe the child of Bethlehem
Music: traditional carol tune "Bethlehem"
